Early Autumn is a wonderful time when everything is on the cusp - changing between summer and autumn, but neither fully one or the other...
Just a few days ago there were chiff chaffs singing in the hedgerows beside my house, so many bees and butterflies are still about and the sun has been very warm. Yet even in the last few days the leaves have changed colour dramatically - and continue to do so. The early mornings are full of misty wonder and the evenings have been full of vivid sunsets.
And the autumn moon has added to all this wonder - the eclipse last week was really rather wonderful and special to see but over several nights the moon has risen large and orange-red in the sky. I was lucky enough to get good views of the super moon and eclipse last week here in Derbyshire, the fog was rolling in at 4am but I'm on a hill and the fog didn't cover the moon, it just added to the wonderful still atmosphere of the night.
There's been owls calling and bats flying around as I've watched the autumn moon rise over the hedgerows; very special sounds and sights...
And the woodland is so enchanting at the moment - the light falls through the trees and casts wonderful shadow patterns onto the floor, there are loud sounds of jays, squirrels, small song birds calling and rustling in the leaf litter as blackbirds rummage for food. Overhead there have been so many buzzards soaring on the thermals and calling - and ravens calling loudly too: sounds which are so evocative.
