Collaborations...
Working in partnership with others is key for me - with artists / creative practitioners working in all other disciplines, but also with other educators, with scientists, with conservationists, with historians, with archaeologists, with geologists... the list goes on... And another vital key in the collaboration are participants in projects: children, adults or both.
A richer experience is reached when several minds are working together and exploring issues; when there is a shared process of true exchanges of ideas, of different thoughts and possibilities and when there is time for reflection, for listening and for exploration.
Over the years I've worked on numerous collaborative projects - and for me the seeds of this were very much set with my own education and studying at Bretton Hall, working with musicians, drama practitioners, writers, dancers and so many varied creative people. I really relish the mix of energies and ideas that grows from this.
This kind of work has often led to combinations of visuals, words, sounds, movement, installations and performance. I've been involved in many street processions (with giant puppets, costumes, hand-made instruments, lanterns and more), with many performances in both large scale venues such as the Bridgewater Hall and in day centres, schools and community venues. I've worked on residencies in prisons, schools, community centres, pre-school settings and more which have led to exhibitions in places such as a watermill, a Norfolk village green, a Suffolk community festival, woodland, old stable blocks, inflatable structures and many other varied places.
I've worked with many different arts organisations, wildlife organisations and local authorities on collaborative projects that have brought different art forms together - including BBC Philharmonic, Lakeside Arts Centre, Kettles Yard Gallery, Britten Sinfonia, National Trust Calke Abbey and Clumber Park, Trestle Theatre youth theatre, Aldeburgh Productions, Rufford Abbey, Nottinghamshire, Norfolk Coastal Partnership, Bridgewater Hall Manchester, Philharmonia Orchestra, Salamanda Tandem, West Sussex District Council, Nottingham City Council and very many more.
Almost every project I've worked on has been collaborative in one way or another and many of these projects are featured on other pages of this website. The images below give a taste of some of this work, with links to organisations and individuals I've worked with. More to follow soon.
